On 24th May 2017, the BMW PGA Championship will get underway at the Wentworth Club. Much is new: The prize money has been raised to 7 million US dollars, the revered West Course has been renovated, and it’s curtain up for the top-class Rolex series, which opens with the prestigious BMW PGA Championship. But not everything has changed. 2017 will see another world class field tee off, which will be closely followed by an enthusiastic and knowledgeable crowd throughout the entire tournament week.

THE STARS.

BMW PGA Championship 2017.

BMW PGA Championship Henrik Stenson
When Henrik Stenson defeated Phil Mickelson in Royal Troon last July after one of the most high-class and thrilling duels in the long history of the Open, and was crowned “Champion Golfer of the Year”, everyone agreed: The Swede’s first Majors win was long overdue, and it was impossible to find anyone who begrudged Stenson this success. Just a few weeks earlier, Stenson won the BMW International Open for the second time in his career. So, this year in Wentworth, he has his sights set on his third BMW title.
 BMW PGA Championship Justin Rose
It had been 112 years since the last Olympics winner in golf – then along came Justin Rose. The U.S. Open winner of 2013 claimed his second big title when he won the gold medal at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. The Englishman, who has consistently been among the world’s elite for many years, only narrowly missed out on his third title in April. At the Masters, Rose was beaten by Sergio García in the playoff. As the winner of the 2011 BMW Championship, the 36-year-old already has an important BMW title on his CV, but no doubt victory at the BMW PGA Championship would mean a great deal to him: As a child, Rose visited the Wentworth Club and watched the golfing stars – among which he has long been counted.
BMW PGA Championship Danny Willett
Home match for the 2016 Masters Champion: Danny Willett is looking forward to the BMW PGA Championship, which he refers to as a “fantastic tournament”. And Willett still has a small score to settle. Last year he competed in Wentworth as the reigning wearer of the green jacket, and was on course to win the title for much of the competition. The winner of the 2012 BMW International Open ended up in third place. It would be “very special” to win the second BMW title on English soil, said Willett. He will try again this year.
BMW PGA Championship Lee Westwood
This streak is impressive: Lee Westwood has teed off at Wentworth every year since 1994; the 2017 BMW PGA Championship will see him compete for the 24th time in a row. In this period, the ten-time Ryder Cup player has made numerous major appearances, the most spectacular – and for him the most unfortunate – was in 2011. The number one in the world ranking at that time and Luke Donald wrestled for the tournament victory right down to the playoff. The result was decided on the approach to the 18th hole, when the two Englishmen delivered almost identical, precise shots – but Westwood gave just a little bit too much spin on the ball, which rolled into the water.
