Lake Malaren Golf Club is one of the key projects located in the North European New Town, Baoshan, Shanghai. The investor is China New Town Development Co, Ltd (listed on both Singapore and Hong Kong stock markets), which is a subsidiary of the SRE Group. The New Town is the only town in Shanghai awarded by the National Development and Reform Commission, and also honored as a "Model Town" by the United Nations Development Programme. Lake Malaren is only 28 KM (40-minutes) away from Shanghai city center.
2003 - Club construction commenced, and officially opened on the 28th of September 2004.
2005 - Completion of North course and Lake Malaren Crowne Plaza Hotel construction and the 36 hole golf resort opened. In the same year, Lake Malaren became the first golf club certified by Audubon International in Asia.
2010 - Lake Malaren signed a professional golf event management agreement with IMG, aiming at having a future major championship. Lake Malaren invited top course designer and golf legend – Mr. Jack Nicklaus to redesign and reconstruct a brand new "Legacy Signature Design", especially for Tour events– named the Masters Course.
2011 - The inaugural Lake Malaren Shanghai Masters took place successfully on 27th - 30th October 2011. Many top ranked players in the world including defending champion Rory McIlroy got together to play for the highest first prize ever in golf of $2million at Lake Malaren. The course was highly praised by the players and officials. Spectacular crowds and successful event operations amazed all the guests, media and officials. The event became a new legend and topic in the China golf industry and globally.
2012 - Lake Malaren will work in conjunction with BMW as the presenting partner of a major new event named "BMW Masters" on the European Tour Calendar. With world ranking points now available, and substantial prize money on offer, this splendid event will attract the top golf stars in the world, and will definitely entertain all the golf community around the world. This event will boost and develop the local region and become a mega yearly sports event for the city of Shanghai.
