Gary Player

SPECIAL GUEST.

Gary "The Black Knight" Player.

A World Final of the BMW Golf Cup International would not be complete without one of the world's top golfers making a special appearance to put on an exclusive golf clinic and present the trophies. And who better to fill this role in South Africa than the country's most famous golfer - and perhaps its most famous sportsman of all: Gary Player.

The nine-time Major winner was born in Johannesburg on 1st November 1935 and joined the PGA Tour at the end of the 1950s. He won the money list in 1961 and picked up a total 24 titles. The "Black Knight" (Player always wore black on the golf course) played around the world and notched up more than 160 tournament victories and over 22 million kilometres over the course of his impressive career.

He picked up at least one international tournament every year between 1955 and 1982, including the World Match Play title on five occasions. Player is also the only man to have won the Open Championship in three different decades (1959, 1968 and 1974). He also went on to win nine Majors as a senior.

Born in Johannesburg, Player has also been busy as a golf course architect. The Fancourt Resort is one of over 300 projects he has supervised and is supervising around the world. Player is responsible for all courses at the resort. Away from golf, Gary Player's charity "The Player Foundation" supports the education of children and young people around the world and the building of schools.

PROGRAMME.

The World Final of the BMW Golf Cup International is far more than just another golf tournament. Together with your companions, you the world finalists will enjoy an unforgettable programme, including exclusive evening events: starting with a welcome evening under a starry canopy and concluding with a gala dinner with Gary Player.

Only guests may participate in events from the side programme, and these can only be booked on-site. The BMW Driving Experience and BMW xDriving Experience are open to all world finalists and their guests from Tuesday to Friday.

  • Sunday/Monday, 4th/5th March
    BMW Golf Cup International Programme

Both of these days are reserved for travelling and give participants the opportunity to take a first look at the beautiful Fancourt Resort. On Monday, there is also the option of playing a private round on the Outeniqua Course, before the grand opening of the World Final at the atmospheric welcome dinner under a starry canopy (dress code: smart casual).

  • Tuesday, 6th March
    BMW Golf Cup International Programme

While the world finalists spend the official practice day familiarising themselves with the golf course, their guests have a choice of activities: discover the region's finest scenery on the "Orientation Tour" (route: Outeniqua Mountains - Herolds Bay - Wilderness Beach - George). Alternatively, you can get a close-up view of lions at the "BMW Driving Experience Catwalk" and live the African dream with this unique experience. Or you can drive a BMW - with a chauffeur, if you'd prefer - to Herolds Bay and spend a lovely day at the beach. If you like, you can play a round on the Links Course in Fancourt. Culinary delights are on offer at the "African Wildlife Experience" in the evening (dress code: outdoor casual).

  • Wednesday, 7th March
    BMW Golf Cup International Programme

On the sport front, today's programme features the opening round of the World Final and Guest Cup. Guests can also conquer the Montagu Pass in the BMW xDriving Experience, and enjoy an exclusive wine-tasting to complement the fantastic views. If that's not exciting enough, you can get your fill of thrills with some "Shark Cage Diving". A ship will take you out onto the Indian Ocean from Mossel Bay Harbour and you will be able to look sharks in the eye from a secure cage. If it's relaxation you are after, then the "Beach Experience" in Herolds Bay is for you. Furthermore, tee times have also been reserved for guests on the Links Course and the Montagu. The many different nationalities spend the evening at the "Team Night" in an exclusive restaurant (dress code: smart casual).

  • Thursday, 8th March

During the second round of the World Final, guests can choose from a wide range of other activities. The "Knysna Elegance" excursion offers fascinating animals and spectacular views. There is also the chance to take part in the "Catwalk". Participants also get the opportunity to enjoy the "Gin & Beer Tasting". Today is a special day: after all, the third round of the tournament will decide who wins the World Final. As well as taking part in the "African Thrill" tour through the stunning Outeniqua Mountains to Oudtshoorn, guests once again have the opportunity to experience one of the following activities: "Catwalk", "Shark Cage Diving", or a round of golf on the Links Course.

  • Saturday, 10th March

An unforgettable week, with countless unforgettable moments, draws to a close with the departure on Saturday. It goes without saying that world finalists and their guests can also extend their stay independently.
