EARTH, DESERT AND FIRE.
The 2021 BMW Golf Cup World Final.
To feel like a professional at a major is every amateur golfer’s dream, and one that came true in December 2021 for the national winners from 20 countries at the World Final of the BMW Golf Cup. The tournament was played between 6th and 10th December at Jumeirah Golf Estates in Dubai – the traditional home of the final tournament of the DP World Tour. The players teed off on the two legendary courses at the luxury resort in the United Arab Emirates – the Earth Course and the Fire Course. Breathtaking views of the impressive Dubai skyline and fantastic weather were guaranteed, perfect conditions for golf. The extraordinary off-course programme rounded off a wonderful week for everyone involved including another event attendance by guest of honour Colin Montgomerie, who is a familiar face at the World Final, just as the sun is over Dubai. He brought a very special object with him – the legendary Ryder Cup, the very trophy that the Scot won six times as a player and once as captain. ‘Monty’ with the Ryder Cup – it is hard to imagine a more popular photo at the closing gala.

2021 RESULT.
As extraordinary as the support programme may have been, its true purpose is in its name – it is there to support the centrepiece of the event. This year, that centrepiece was once again the sporting competition. While the Team competition looked like being a three-way battle between the teams from Russia, South Korea and Moldova after two of the three rounds, the Russians were eventually able to pull clear and take a comfortable victory. With 276 points, they finished ten points clear of the South Koreans. The Moldovan team eventually finished third, just one point behind South Korea.
In the Ladies competition, victory in the singles went to India. Parita Vinod Kothari scored 93 points to finish just ahead of Irina Orlova (Moldova, 92). Tied in third place were Alesia Sazonova (Russia) and Stallone Rocio Razafindrafara (Mauritius), who each finished with 90 points. In the Men’s A competition, it was Moonhwi Lee from South Korea (100 points) who emerged triumphant. He was followed in second and third place by Alberto Giarola (Italy, 92) and Boris Krasnenkov (Russia, 90). Victory in Men’s B went to Austria. Markus Rosenthaler (108) finished ahead of Luigi Valerio Castellano (Italy, 104) and Heiko Soika (Germany, 96).

LEARNING FROM A LEGEND.
Colin Montgomerie, one of the best and most successful golfers ever, was the honorary guest in Dubai – and it would be remiss to allow him to leave without giving the participants a tip or two to take onto the course. The ‘Monty Clinic’ has become an integral part of the BMW Golf Cup World Final and was once again hugely popular.
New to the event were Peter Finch and The Jazzy Golfer – two popular content creators from the ever-growing online golf universe. The two Brits were given a taste of the World Final, mingled with the participants, and entertained golf fans around the world with fascinating stories and great golf tips from golf’s largest international amateur tournament series on social media, their own channels and the official BMW Golfsport channels.
