RORY MCILROY.

The 2019 golfing year has been extremely successful for Rory McIlroy so far. The man from Northern Ireland won three tournaments on the PGA TOUR: the PLAYERS Championship, the RBC Canadian Open, which has been supported by BMW for many years, and the TOUR Championship. His victory in Atlanta also saw him win the FedExCup. This was the 30-year-old’s second time winning the PGA TOUR season rankings, having previously topped the list in 2016, an achievement previously only ever accomplished by Tiger Woods (2007 & 2009). And the four-time majors winner is aiming for the double at the BMW PGA Championship as well. McIlroy won the flagship event of the European Tour five years ago, last year he finished second, behind Francesco Molinari.

FRANCESCO MOLINARI.

What a season 2018 was for Francesco Molinari: “Chicco’s” triumph started with victory at the BMW PGA Championship and ended with winning the “Race to Dubai” (the first Italian ever to do so) and being voted European Tour Player of the Year. Rarely has there been such a clear winner: He won his first tournament on the PGA TOUR, his first major at the Open, and five of five possible points in the Ryder Cup. And Molinari has seamlessly followed up these successes in the current season, winning at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and finishing third in the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play. It doesn’t take a prophet to predict that Molinari has the best chance of becoming the first player since Luke Donald in 2012 to defend his title successfully at the BMW PGA Championship.

Tony Finau is set to make his debut at the flagship tournament of the European Tour this year. The American has been among the permanent features on the PGA TOUR for two years and is convincing with successive top positions. He finished in the top ten five times in the last eight majors tournaments, and he finished in a strong seventh place in the 2019 FedExCup. As a rookie, he was one of the strongest Team USA players in the Ryder Cup last year. TOMMY FLEETWOOD.

Even though Tommy Fleetwood has not won a tournament yet this season, the man from England has long since established himself among the very best in the world. He consistently finished in the top spots at the majors this year and finished second at the Open – like last year at the U.S. Open. His first major win seems to be only a matter of time. Whereas the 28-year-old has already made history at the Ryder Cup. As a rookie, he won all foursomes and fourballs alongside Francesco Molinari in Paris last year – something no other European pairing had ever achieved. “Moliwood” will be reunited at the BMW PGA Championship, although this time not as a team, but as rivals for one of the most important titles on the European Tour.

England.

Schweden.

Major-Sieger, Olympia-Silber, FedExCup-Champion, zweimaliger Race-to-Dubai-Gewinner, mehrmaliger Ryder-Cup-Sieger.
