Tournament record.

A new star of the golfing world was born at the 2015 BMW PGA Championship: South Korean Byeong-Hun An made history with one of the most impressive performances ever seen at the BMW PGA Championship. Just 23 at the time and in his rookie season on the European Tour, An ended the tournament on -21 (267 shots) to better the previous lowest score on the West Course by two shots. In 2019, winner Danny Willett (268) came up just one shot short of equalling the record.

BMW Hole-in-One Award.

BMW has been title partner of the European Tour’s flagship event since 2005. During this time, it has provided at least one BMW Hole-in-One Award every year. For ten tournaments, the pros were unable to take advantage of the opportunity to win a dream car with a hole-in-one. After that, however, there was no stopping them: At the 2015 BMW PGA Championship, Chris Wood (ENG, BMW i8) and Andrew “Beef” Johnston (ENG, BMW M4 Coupé) won the two Hole-in-One Awards. The following year saw another two players celebrating: James Morrison (ENG) picked up a BMW i8 Protonic Red Edition and Scott Jamieson (SCO) won a BMW M2 Coupé.

BMW Albatross Award.

An albatross is a rare event in golf. As such, Ross Fisher’s achievement in 2019 was quite something to behold – as were his celebrations. Using a four-iron, the Englishman holed his second shot on the 478-metre 18th hole (par 5) to win the BMW Albatross Award, a BMW i8 Roadster Rosso Corsa. In the history of the BMW PGA Championship, only Miguel Ángel Jiménez (2009) and Tommy Fleetwood (2012) have previously achieved an albatross, both of them on the fourth hole. However, no player has ever achieved this feat on the last hole before.

Record winner.

Among the many records held by Sir Nick Faldo is the number of wins at the European Tour’s flagship event. No player has won the tournament more often than the Englishman, who claimed the coveted title in 1978, 1980, 1981 and 1989. Peter Alliss (ENG, 1957, 1962, 1965), Bernhard Langer (GER, 1987, 1993, 1995) and Colin Montgomerie (SCO, 1998, 1999, 2000) each have three titles to their name. “Monty” is the only player ever to have won the tournament three years in a row.
