BMW International Open 2025.

Players.

2026 BMW International Open.

The main protagonists.

Some of the biggest names in international golf are engraved on the BMW International Open trophy. Paul Azinger, John Daly, Ernie Els, Viktor Hovland, Sandy Lyle, Colin Montgomerie, Henrik Stenson and many more have won the iconic German tournament since 1989. With top national and international players set to tee off in Munich, visitors can once again look forward to world-class golf this year.

1

Matti Schmid.

The BMW International Open is well and truly the home tournament for Bavarian Matti Schmid. The 28-year-old has established himself on the PGA TOUR and is currently the best-placed German in the world rankings. Schmid was also the top homegrown player at the 2025 BMW International Open, finishing in a tie for seventh place. Born in Regensburg, Matti Schmid travels from the USA with the wind in his sails, having recently caught the eye with a fourth-place finish at the second major of the year, the PGA Championship.

2

Martin Kaymer.

Martin Kaymer currently holds two records at the BMW International Open. He is the only German winner and the youngest champion in the history of the tournament. The two-time major winner was just 23 years and 177 days old when he triumphed in Munich in 2008. That is just one of the reasons that the event is one of Kaymer’s favourite tournaments. He says: “I am always grateful and, as a German, proud that we have such a great event in this country. It is always a great pleasure to come here.”

3

Patrick Reed.

Patrick Reed has been a big name on the international golf scene for many years: major winner, Ryder Cup legend, nine wins on the PGA TOUR, and five titles on the DP World Tour. This year alone, he has won two tournaments on the DP World Tour, and the American travels to the BMW International Open as the leader in the season rankings. Having always featured at the top of the leaderboard in his previous outings at Golfclub München Eichenried, the 2018 Masters champion is definitely one to watch out for again this year.

4

Sergio García.

Sergio García can undoubtedly be listed among the true greats of his craft – if for no other reason than that the Spaniard has scored more points than any other player in the history of the Ryder Cup: the 46-year-old has contributed 28.5 points to the European cause, and won the Ryder Cup on six occasions. The biggest individual success among his eleven PGA TOUR titles and 16 wins on the DP World Tour was his victory at the 2017 Masters, which saw Garciá join the elite group of major winners. Garciá has twice finished runner-up at the BMW International Open, which he readily admits is one of his favourite tournaments in the world.

5

Carlos Ortiz.

The crowd at the BMW International Open can look forward to a debut this year, as Carlos Ortiz tees off at Golfclub München Eichenried for the first time. The Mexican is a rare sight in Europe, and has never played in Germany before. The 35-year-old joined the list of winners on the PGA TOUR with victory at the Houston Open in 2020, and last year underlined his class with fourth place at the U.S. Open. It will be intriguing to see how Ortiz fares on his first appearance in Munich.

Daniel Willett

Danny Willett.

Like Patrick Reed and Sergio García, Danny Willett has also tasted success at the Masters. It is now ten years since the Englishman donned the green jacket. However, the 38-year-old has one up on his two peers: he has also won the BMW International Open. Willett’s triumph in 2014 was his first victory on what was still the European Tour at the time. Five years later, Willett completed the BMW double, winning the flagship event on the DP World Tour, the BMW PGA Championship in his native England. When he tees off in July, the former champion will be hungry to show that he knows what it takes to win a BMW tournament.

1

Bernd Wiesberger.

The first Austrian ever to play in the Ryder Cup is a nine-time winner on the DP World Tour and returned to the winners’ circle this year after a five-year absence. Bernd Wiesberger is a force to be reckoned with once again.

2

Thriston Lawrence.

Thriston Lawrence won the BMW International Open in 2023. One year later, the South African again underlined his class, despite narrowly missing out on prestigious victories at The Open and the BMW PGA Championship.

3

Rafa Cabrera Bello.

The Spaniard is a crowd favourite in Munich and, as well as four titles on the DP World Tour, can also look back proudly on a fifth place at the Olympic Games (2016) and fourth place at The Open (2017).

4

Marcel Siem.

Marcel Siem has not yet given up on his dream of victory in his “nursery” – the German learned his trade on the fairways of GC München Eichenried as a child. Now 45 years old, Siem is a six-time winner on the DP World Tour.

5

Freddy Schott.

25-year-old Freddy Schott claimed his maiden win on the DP World Tour this year, when he defeated the likes of Patrick Reed (USA) in a play-off to win February’s Bahrain Championship.

6

Nicolai von Dellingshausen.

33-year-old Nicolai von Dellingshausen tasted victory on the DP World Tour for the first time at last year’s Austrian Open. His best result to date in Munich was a fifth place in 2022.

7

Max Kieffer.

The 35-year-old has one DP World Tour win to his name. Max Kieffer has been in contention deep into the final round of the BMW International Open on several occasions – most recently in 2023.

8

Marcel Schneider.

Marcel Schneider made his BMW International Open debut in 2011 and is a regular in Munich, as well as being one of the most consistent Germans on the DP World Tour.
